Staff at Christchurch based charitable organisation, Home and Family, are dancing for joy at the news that Chrystal Chenery has selected them as her chosen charity for TV3’s Dancing with the Stars, which premiers on TV3 this Sunday at 7pm.

Chrystal Chenery who rose to fame recently on The Bachelor NZ will be kicking up her heals to raise funds for the organisation which provides counselling and practical life skills to families and children.

Every vote for Chrystal and her dance partner Jonny Williams will mean a donation to Home & Family.   All funds raised will go towards helping the charity provide much needed services and towards the restoration of an old convent which will become the new home for the organisation.

This grade 1, category 1 heritage building in the Christchurch CBD, which has suffered some earthquake damage, will become the new home for the head office and counselling services.

The convent has beautiful and unique heritage features including a chapel with historically significant stained glass windows. Home & Family are working closely with Heritage New Zealand to ensure that the significant aspects of this building are identified so that they can be preserved and maintained as the building takes on this new purpose.

Val Carter, Chief Executive from Home and Family says, “We hope that Our House will have areas that can be used and enjoyed by the public so that this taonga becomes an asset to the community and a landmark for hope, compassion and respect.

“We are thrilled that Crystal has chosen to support us and we hope as many people as possible will vote for her and Jonny to help raise as much money as possible. We wish her the best of luck for the series and hope she wins the trophy and a place in the Dancing with the Stars hall of fame. ”

Says Crystal, “It was important for me to choose a Christchurch-based charity as I’m from there and also because I know the impact the earthquakes have had and the on-going struggles families there are facing.”

Tune in to TV3 on Sundays and Mondays at 7pm (starting Sunday 1 June).
