Take a look at the inspiring photos of children at Cannons Creek School and Puketua School (Wellington) eating the wonderful dishes they have cooked and prepared with food they have grown themselves in their school gardens.  Both schools have 50 children involved in the Garden to Table project from years five and six at Cannons Creek and years seven and eight at Puketua. This fantastic initiative has seen outstanding results for children’s learning and healthy eating.

There have been wonderful, positive outcome for children and their families as a result of the programme. At Cannons Creek, enquiry based learning as improved as a result of Garden to Table. There have been significant changes in eating habits of the children involved, with all of them trying and eating new vegetables and it is said that families are purchasing vegetable boxes to have at home. At Puetua School, every Tuesday is spent teaching maths and science in the garden and the principal say the children don’t even realise they are learning! The parents have set up their own market style garden in the school grounds and are involved in gardening and building work.
