TTF began to clearly define the role of funding managers – prioritising support for grassroots local services and initiatives and focussing the foundations direct donations to supporting long-term solutions to more complex and chronic problems. This approach recognised that lasting change happens when communities collaborate to solve issues, they personally find unacceptable – such as poverty, violence, or educational inequity.
Projects like Project Kaikohe, Cannons Creek House, and the LIFT Trust in Linwood exemplified this shift.
“We see the best way forward is to support people, communities and neighbourhoods to help each other and work together to find their own solutions.” – Trevor Gray, Foundation Manager at the time
