Home and Family in Christchurch now has three SPACE (Supporting Parents Alongside Children’s Education) programmes up and running and there are a few places left in this hugely beneficial parenting programme for first-time parents.
Programmes are taking place in New Brighton and Phillipstown. Sessions run weekly for three to four terms extending through the first year of a child’s life. The sessions are held in a relaxed and baby friendly environment.
Mandi Batchelor, Space Facilitator said that although there was a lot of information available for parents, there was nothing more valuable than connecting with other parents who were going through exactly the same trials and tribulations as you were.
“It is so rewarding seeing the parents connecting, sharing experiences and knowledge as well as offering support and understanding within the groups as they journey along side each other.
“The babies are amazing. Each week they come with a new developmental stage which is shared with us all. They are loving the singing and story times and the opportunity to have some floor time with other babies.”

- Opportunities for parents to meet and get to know one another
- Discussion and information sharing on relevant child development and parenting topics
- Music, rhymes and books for babies
- Opportunities for babies to interact and explore play through a range of experiences
- Ideas for homemade resources
