Laying the Groundwork for Housing Innovation

Laying the Groundwork for Housing Innovation

Throughout the late 1990s early 2000’s TTF recognised a growing challenge of housing affordability – receiving hundreds of funding applications from kiwis with dreams of home ownership. So, in 2001 it brought together a governance group that established the charitable trust which would be later known as the New Zealand Housing Foundation (NZHF) to pilot shared equity home ownership models.  These initiatives supported working whānau to move from renting to owning, offering a pathway to greater housing security and financial stability for low- to middle-income households.

“Having The Tindall Foundation’s involvement at the start provided reassurance to the market and enabled leveraging of a significant government loan,” explained Brian Donnelly, The New Zealand Housing Foundation’s Executive Director.
