In 2016, siblings Liz, Rob, Kate, Jem, and Ben came together to establish Next Gen, a fund inspired by the legacy of their parents, Stephen and Margaret Tindall. While honouring their parents’ founding wishes for TTF, they also bring their own passions and experiences to the decision-making process. Next Gen is grounded in the values of generosity, equity, manaakitanga, and care for people – principles instilled in them from an early age.
Next Gen aims to connect people with their communities through creativity and to ensure that the creativity in each of us is valued, nurtured, and celebrated.
Autaia Haka Theatre
A movement that uses music as a powerful tool for connection, confidence, and creativity.
A Kaupapa Māori arts venue in Waitākere focused on contemporary and community performance.
Next Gen supports organisations that centre rangatahi wellbeing through arts and creativity. Our partners work across a wide range of artistic disciplines including; film, music, dance, kapa haka, performance, acting, singing, traditional craft, design, and storytelling.
We prioritise initiatives that are Māori-led, Moana Oceania-led, or youth-led, and that reflect the lived experiences of the communities they serve.
While most of our funding goes to grassroots organisations working directly with young people, we also support capacity-building and advocacy efforts that strengthen the wider arts and social impact sectors.
Our Next Gen Approach:
Proactive and future-focused
Relationships first – genuine connections with organisations
Flexible and relational reporting
Equitable funding – responsive to community needs
Multi-year commitments with flexibility to pivot as needs evolve
- Liz Tindall Tetro, Next Gen Fund Manager

We are proud to support a wide range of organisations - over 60% of which are Māori or Pasifika led - who are all helping young people to thrive by fostering cultural connection, emotional resilience, and creative confidence. These organisations also equip whānau and caregivers with tools to better understand and support wellbeing through the arts. Select a logo below to learn more:
Next Gen is a proactive fund. We do not accept applications; we seek out and build relationships with organisations that align with our values and focus areas.
Please note: Next Gen supports creative arts organisations, which sit outside The Tindall Foundation’s general donation areas. This fund operates independently within the Foundation, with a distinct strategy and approach.
“Thanks to the generous support of Next Gen, we’ve been able to deliver With Wonder Art Boxes which have allowed rangatahi who find group settings difficult to engage meaningfully with creativity from home. These boxes have become a way for families – across generations, including parents, grandparents, siblings, and Rangatahi – to connect through a shared creative experience.”
